The moment a little boy is concerned with which is a jay and which is a sparrow, he can no longer see the birds or hear them sing.

Its been 5 years that we moved into a house and soon after we adopted our dog. Since then, even though our community has lots of birds, we hardly get them in our yard as our boy is pretty good at keeping squirrels, birds and even the neighbor’s cat out. Almost everyday he goes out and keeps a watchful eye on the entire yard. Occasionally he’ll just laze inside the house and this day happened to be one.
This brave soul, managed to make a visit. I was happily sipping my coffee and got distracted by the unique movements of this bird on the lawn. I wondered if there was a way I could get a picture. It was cloudy, giving a very nice even lighting and the greens would make a nice background.
A quick dash and out I came, armed with my trusted Z7 and a Nikon 200-500mm. I’m still trying to get to know this lens and this was a perfect opportunity to put it to use. Managed to get couple of frames that I was pleased with.
While I was shooting, I was thinking its a common sparrow. But I was doubtful as it appeared big for a sparrow. I have a kindergarten friend who is an encyclopedia of wildlife. Within seconds he identified it as California Towhee. It still is a sparrow, a large one though 🙂
Its a nice feeling to end the day with some new learning.
